Tuesday,
we have been visiting the Museum of Man of Balboa Park, San Diego,
to discover the exhibits dedicated to prehistory and in particular
meet with Lucy.
Here is the result of our inquiry:
Who
is Lucy ?
Lucy is an Australopithecus. Her
skeleton has been discovered in Ethiopia in 1974, by Donald Johanson.
Lucy lived on Earth some 3.2 million years ago. We know she was
walking upright, like a human because of the particular shape
of her hip and knees. Her skeleton has not been wholly uncovered.
At the Museum of Man of San Diego,
it's not the real skeleton of Lucy that is exhibited, it's a copy.
The real skeleton is in Ethiopia. In the World, there is only
19 copies.
Where does the name Lucy come
from ?
The name of Lucy comes from the
song of the Beatles the inventors were singing the day of the
discovery of the skeleton: Lucy in the sky with diamonds.
