iAliéksey Vianna is one of the finest guitarists of his generation. His superb musicianship and artistry have been praised by critics and public in more then ten countries throughout Europe, North and South America. He has performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, such as New York's Carnegie Hall, San Francisco's Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and Sao Paulo's Sala Ester Mesquita. His repertoire ranges from classical guitar solos, chamber works and concerti, to Jazz and Brazilian music. Aliéksey has appeared as a soloist with the Orquestra Sinfonica de Campinas and the Knifkvarteten, and as a sideman with world-renowtied Jazz percussionist Peter Erskine (Weather Report), and Jazz oboist Paul McCandless. He has played the American premieres of Sergio Assad's "Sonata" for solo guitar, and Egberto Gismonti's "Ritmos e Danças" for guitar and string quartet. Recently, he had the honor to perform Pierre Boulez's landmark work "Le Marteau sans Maître" conducted by the composer at Carnegie Hall.
Born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil in 1975, Aliéksey first took up the guitar very spontaneously at age eight, improvising and teaching himself to play. At age twelve, he began formal musical studies, which included classical guitar, composition, arranging and orchestration. His main teachers were Rogerio Bianchi, Maria Rachel Marcondes, Jose Lucena Vaz, Fernando Ara jo, Thomas Patterson and David Tanenbaum. He has also performed in master classes of Sergio and Odair Assad, Manuel Barrueco, Oscar Ghiglia, Abel Carlevaro, Hopkinson Smith, Nigel North and Ralph Towner, among others. Today he has achieved international recognition by wining top prizes in many of the world's most important music competitions, and is a regular guest performer and teacher in several music festivals.
